Can I purchase YNAB from the Mac App Store?

YNAB is no longer available on the Mac App Store. If you purchased from the Mac App Store previously, the following article may apply to you.

Can I use the Mac App Store version on more than one computer?

If you buy it on the Mac App Store, you're allowed to use it on all Macs you own that can access the App Store. Buying directly from us allows you to use it on all of your Mac and Windows computers.

How do I get the latest version of YNAB 4 if I bought it on the Mac App Store?

Open the Mac App Store, then click on “Updates”. If there is an update to YNAB 4 available, you’ll see it listed. If you purchased YNAB from us, it will automatically prompt you to update if it's running and there is an update available.

I bought it on the Mac App Store and now want to install it on Windows.

No problem. We just need to get proof that you purchased on the Mac App Store, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you have the email receipt you got from Apple:

  1. Open the email receipt you received from iTunes. It will have your order ID, a receipt date, etc.
  2. Forward that email to [email protected]. Make the subject of the email “Register Mac App Store Purchase”. We’ll respond with everything you will need to get YNAB installed on your other computers.
    NOTE: Please avoid attaching the receipt email when you contact us. Instead just forward the receipt email itself as is directly to [email protected] and skip changing the subject line if you'd like.

  3. Download the full featured trial and get started today (you can paste in your full key later when we reply to your email).

If you don’t have that receipt any longer:

Note: Mac App Store web order details can only be seen in the iTunes purchase history. They are not visible within the Mac App Store application.

  1. On your Mac, view your purchase history in iTunes by following these instructions.
  2. Find your order of YNAB 4 in the list of purchases, and click the small arrow on the left of the order to display it.
  3. Take a screenshot of your screen by hitting: Command-Shift-3 at the same time. A file will be dropped on your desktop called something like “Screen Shot” with today’s date and time. Double-click it to open the screenshot and verify that is the right file.
  4. Now send an email to [email protected] with a subject of “Register Mac App Store Purchase.” Attach that screenshot you just took to the email. We’ll respond with everything you will need to get YNAB installed on your other computers.
  5. Download the full featured trial and get started today (you can paste in your full key later when we reply to your email).

I bought YNAB 4 from your website. Can I download YNAB 4 or its updates from the Mac App Store?

Unfortunately, The Mac App Store only lets you download YNAB 4 and its updates if you purchased it on the Mac App Store.  There is no way for us to transfer purchases you made with us, to the Mac App Store.

I would like to try YNAB 4 before I buy it.

What are the differences between the Mac App Store version of YNAB and the version I get from your website?

As with all Mac App Store apps, the Mac App Store version is “sandboxed.” This means that:
